Plexal is the innovation company solving society’s challenges through collaboration with government, startups and industry. Providing bespoke consultancy services and state-of-the-art workspaces for over 1,000 innovators, Plexal sources the right partners from our ecosystem of 15,000 connections. It supports entrepreneurs, startups and scaleups building emerging technologies and operates across multiple sectors including cyber, healthcare, intelligence and defence, government, public safety, financial services and telecoms.

Plexal delivers projects for key government departments and global tech companies including the National Cyber Security Centre, Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Amazon Web Services, Lloyds Banking Group and Dell Technologies. The NCSC For Startups alumni of over 60 companies has collectively raised over £430m and created over 700 jobs, while 72 cyber startups that have gone through Plexal’s LORCA accelerators have collectively raised over £300m, generated more than £68m in revenue and hired over 800 people.

Plexal works across government, academia, industry leaders, and SMEs to enable the UK’s mission of being an innovation led technology superpower: enabling technology-led innovation across areas such as communications technology, artificial intelligence, quantum, and semiconductor applications.
Current projects in our innovation services portfolio include:
• Futures: Identifying and designing roadmaps for novel scientific, technological and process approaches to age identification
• Research: Using qualitative research to understand the landscape for emerging technologies (AI, quantum, semiconductors and future telecoms) and how the UK should position themselves to gain strategic advantage
• Capability Development: Working with startups, tech companies and UK government to co-develop and integrate cutting-edge technology in response to mission-critical challenges, in areas such as quantum computing, cryptography, fraud detection, causal AI, fatigue monitoring and 5G security.
• Programmes: Delivering national technology accelerator programmes with a focus on cyber resilience, growth, sustainability, cyber and healthy communities.

What you’ll do

We’re looking for an individual who can work as a technology and product consultant with the capability and desire to shape the future of the UK’s tech landscape. This individual will play an important role in delivering excellence and growth in our technology consulting practice.

We are a rapidly growing team and are actively looking to recruit exceptional individuals who want to work in an adaptive, fast moving, collaborative environment. As an innovation consultant at Plexal, you’ll deliver projects with the public and private sectors and support our clients in shaping their innovation strategies, and support them into deployment.

Your role will include:
• Working with clients and internal teams to contribute to a broad-range of technology-related services such as
• Technology strategy and architecture design,
• External product, architecture and systems configuration assessment,
• Technical and capability feasibility analysis
• Technology implementation support and roadmap design and development.
• Continuous monitoring of emerging technology trends and solutions and market needs to guide our work and shape our innovation strategy as we grow
• Consulting on emerging technology ecosystem engagement to develop capability through internal innovation efforts or external partnerships.
• Contributing technical insight to client engagements and internal projects, and upskilling members of the team on technology acumen.
• Working with teams to design and deliver end-to-end projects for clients, with a focus on technology capability assessment and development. This includes; supporting clients in scoping projects, using qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, interpreting and analysing results, developing and overseeing development roadmaps, and sharing findings via impactful reports and presentations.
• Acting as a relationship manager, building partnerships and commercial relationships with key external stakeholders to help deliver and grow our initiatives and Plexal’s innovation services business
• Engaging with innovators to understand their needs, challenges and the interventions that will support their growth
• Proactively managing regular interaction, communication and collaboration with external stakeholders
• Contributing towards specific areas of business development by responding to public sector bids and bespoke proposals

Who you are

Your skills:

• Experience in a relevant technical field such as technology or technical consultancy, solutions architecture, data science, computer engineering, and a strong desire to support clients in developing technological capabilities.
• Experience within technology innovation in a market or sector of interest, such as UK public sector, telecommunications, financial services, defence, cybersecurity a tech startup or management consultancy is desirable.
• A passion for and understanding of emerging technologies (e.g. AI, quantum, biotechnology, cyber, IoT) and the innovative startups that exist in this space, and a desire to want to explore state-of-the-art applications.
• Experience with a range of research methodologies (both qualitative and quantitative), and an ability to critically assess this research to draw insightful conclusions and recommendations for the client, presented in an accessible and compelling narrative
• Evidence of building trust-based relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders such as startups and corporate clients as well as understanding the practicalities of working in a small and growing company
• A proven ability to be able to provide an outside-in perspective to clients with regards to emerging market needs, trends, opportunities and technologies of interest to explore
• Engaging and accurate written work suitable for advising and making recommendations to senior leaders, using your own intuition and judgement
• Ability to work proactively – planning and organising your own work with reference to appropriate strategies, policies, processes and protocols
• Experience of working successfully through collaboration, contributing to the success of a delivery team
