Footie fans across England might be celebrating the country’s first ever World Cup penalty shootout victory, but at Plexal we have another reason to be feeling jubilant today: BuffaloGrid, one of our first ever members, scored big-time at last night’s Europas in the Tech for Good category.
Each year since 2009, The Europas celebrates and awards Europe’s brightest tech companies across over 20 categories. Unlike many other industry awards, the community gets a chance to vote too and entrants don’t need to pay a thing to take part – a policy the organisers say makes the awards genuine, independent and editorially driven.
At this year’s ceremony, BuffaloGrid was recognised for the work it’s doing to connect the unconnected using The BuffaloGrid Hub, which allows customers to generate and provide solar energy wherever it’s needed, and its accompanying Cloud service, which is designed to help customers manage an entire fleet of hubs.
Together, they’re helping people across South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa who don’t have access to affordable power reap the benefits of mobile technology. And given that so many people in emerging economies rely on their mobiles almost exclusively for buying, selling, banking, sharing content and communicating, it’s clear that the startup’s technology is helping to make sure that nobody is excluded from the modern economy just because they’re off the grid.
Commenting on the win, BuffaloGrid said on its website:
“This award highlights our commitment to building an affordable, sustainable and scalable solution for providing off-grid power and connectivity. And it emphasises the importance we place on our mission of reducing digital inequality around the world.”
Nicely done team, and we can’t wait to see what you do next!
